There’ll be no beating around the bush here: Protest! have called it a day. End. Finish. Caput.

The break at the end of 2009 gave us time to reflect on what we all wanted and where we want to be and we decided instead of limping along giving a half arsed attempt, we’d end it when it was due.

Scott is concentrating on Forefold, finishing his studies and Dave, B2 and I have started a new band.

We managed to play quite a few shows this year and put out a few tracks for people to download. Although the pace was a little behind what I expected, it’s still left me chomping at the bit and wishing it was 2010 already.

The new year will see us recording (studio time is booked) our debut album. I’m not sure how many tracks it will be just yet, but it will a mix of our older songs an the newer ones. Our newer songs are taking us to places I didn’t think we’d end up but I’m super stoked that they did. I was talking to B2 at practice last night we were saying that we started out as an offshoot punk band from our old band Bad Day Down, but we’ve morphed into something else. It’s a heap of bloody fun!

So, we’ll organise some shows whilst Dave is away and you should see us rocking hard again soon!

The move by Broome sends a strong message to Japan that the international community strongly opposes the slaughter of 23,000 dolphins in Japan each year.

Whilst Broome’s decision adds significant international pressure on Japan to end the slaughter, unfortunately it does not mean that Japan will immediately cease the dolphin kill. The fight to save these dolphins is not over yet. Come September, a peaceful coastal town of Taiji will become a scene of unspeakable cruelty when the world’s largest dolphin slaughter commences once again. Australia is in a unique position to pressure Japan to end this brutal slaughter, which is why your help is needed today. Shocking footage shows ocean water turning red as these gentle mammals, unable to escape, are brutally butchered by Japanese fishermen. Warning: this video may be distressing.

Broome in Western Australia is the sister-city of Taiji and may hold the key to ending this slaughter. Thousands of visitors flock to Broome each year to watch whales and dolphins frolic in safety in the blue waters there. Yet the willingness of the Shire of Broome to maintain the sister-city of Taiji in effect provides an Australian endorsement of Taiji’s annual dolphin slaughter.

World-famous dolphin trainer of the Flipper TV series Richard O’Barry visited Broome this week lobbying the Shire to cut ties with Taiji — a move which would add significant international pressure to end the slaughter. The extraordinary lengths that O’Barry and an undercover team went to in filming the full horror of the Taiji dolphin slaughter are revealed in the internationally acclaimed documentary The Cove due for release in Australian cinemas next week.

Pressure is mounting on Broome after O’Barry’s visit. Many local residents are outraged that their city is condoning this shocking slaughter by maintaining a sister-city relationship with Taiji.

Please join Animals Australia in calling on the Shire of Broome to immediately suspend its sister-city relationship and pressure Taiji to end this mass dolphin slaughter.

Anyway, enough about juice, July was a fun month with the gigs – thanks to all who came and supported.  We’ve been pretty overwhelmed with people wanting to buy the CD, so that’s been really encouraging.  The good news is, we start recording the album the first weekend of September.  Hopefully the album will be out by the end of the year.

We’re currently organising some more shows for Roctober and beyond.  The mighty Damn the Empire will be coming up around the end of August October (!) so all you Brisbanites better be out in a force!  More details to come on those shows.

We have the gig in a couple of weeks a Jimboomba, and remember folks, this one is in the day time, with Protest! on late afternoon.  Also listen out for us on Triple J too.
